Sam Poole

The Mark of a True Musician ...

Sam Poole is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, arranger based out of Windsor, ON, Canada. From a very young age, Sam began studying piano and theory. He took his piano education to a number of different places studying with Vicki Frederick, Mary Jeanne Peters and Dr. Thomas Green. He completed his examinations with The Royal Conservatory of Music, with a Grade 10 level piano examination and an Advanced Theory examination. He started studying guitar and voice, studying with Brandon Ioannis, Greg Cox, Brewster McMinn, Elspeth Maynard, Melanie Tanovich and more.

During this time, he studied music every day at Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts (WCCA) in Windsor. He majored in piano, guitar, voice and jazz ensemble. While at WCCA, he started to become involved with Musical Theatre, providing music for projects such as IN THE HEIGHTS, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, LES MISERABLES, and develop some original musicals written at WCCA such as TWIHARD: THE MUSICAL & THE GREY AREA. Sam graduated on the honour roll and with the Mary Jeanne Peters award for Excellence in Piano and the John Vacratsis Top All-Around W.C.C.A. Student award. He also received many other awards around Windsor Essex such as the Martin Kurcz Award and Scholarship for the Kiwanis Music Festival,  the Senior Piano Award and Scholarship for the Académie Ste. Cécile Music Festival.

Sam was accepted to some of the best schools in Canada and the United States such as the University of Windsor, the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto, York University, Wayne State University and Berklee College of Music.

He attended the University of Toronto for his Bachelor of Music Education with the Earl Simard Entrance Scholarship in Music and Don Wright Admissions Award. He studied with Larysa Kuzmenko & Megan Chang in his private piano studies. He also served as Music Director and orchestra musician for musical theatre performances throughout Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area such as ASSASSINS, RENT (Victoria College Drama Society), THE LAST FIVE YEARS (Victoria College Drama Society, Rural Stages Productions), LIZZIE: THE MUSICAL, CABARET, DOGFIGHT, LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL (UC Follies) and more.

He then transferred to the University of Windsor’s School of Creative Arts (SoCA) for the Bachelor of Music program in Jazz/Pop Piano Performance. He now studies with Mike Karloff in his private Jazz/Pop piano studies. Since moving back to Windsor, he has gained positions tutoring and teaching at St. Clair College in their Musical Theatre Performance program, and Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts. He has served as musical director and orchestra musician for a number of projects including, PREGNANCY PACT: THE MUSICAL (The Edge Productions & Gangway Theatre Co.), MAMMA MIA (Windsor Light Music Theatre), THE WIZ, DREAMGIRLS (Arts Collective Theatre), HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL (Cardinal Music Productions), COMPANY, FUN HOME (Korda Artistic Productions). He also served as composer, musical director, orchestrater, and audio engineer for FREE: A NEW MUSICAL (Extension-Korda Productions) and ANOTHER F*ING CHRISTMAS PLAY: A F*ING MUSICAL (Post Productions).

He served as Director, Producer & Music Director for a special concert production of Jason Robert Brown's SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD, as his graduation recital, at the University of Windsor's beautiful Performance Hall in the Armouries of the School of Creative Arts. He is now part of Stiletto Fire, one of the most acclaimed wedding bands in Detroit, as a keyboard player. He serves as a producer, performer, composer in the Windsor-Detroit area and has worked and studied with incredible musicians such as Kerri Parks, Abbey Neves, Robert Fazecash, Nicholas Morvay, Jeff Fabischek, Bruce Kotowich, Shahida Narullah, Nicholas Papador, Trevor Pittman, Jeff Price, Peggy Dwyer, Ken Chamberland, and many more.
